Nice roomy comfortable suite accommodation with good WiFi and ideal St Pete location.
Positive: There was no breakfast, but that's ok because the kitchenette is so good. Big fridge, burners and utensils for cooking, and plenty of space, along with a nice sofa and coffee table. The suite has the bedroom on one side and salon with kitchenette on the other side of a pass-through bathroom with a nice roomy shower with good pressure and fast hot water. The mattress is nice and firm but not hard, and the fans and air conditioners work well with easy controls. The lights are varied and classy-looking, and windows can let in light or be covered with convenient shades. The location is so central that it made all of St Pete's downtown delights, including Mirror Lake, the harbor and all bars and restaurants, walkable from the hotel. The WiFi signal made remote working easy and comfortable, with power outlets in good locations for the PC.
Negative: Check-out time at the 1888 is too early, 11am, and sadly inflexible. I work at night and spend most of my time in Europe, where industry standard check-out time is 12 noon, and even then, a polite phone call or visit to the front desk usually gets a free one-hour extension. Hoping to check out a bit later, I tried kindly calling in advance, but 1888 uses some kind of non-local answering service for its Customer Help line, and the lady i talked to, after a very long, wordy "let me confirm what you are asking and call my supervisor to ask if it's possible," called me back and said that no extension was possible. I find this odd in a nice hotel during February.
